Elevated Jet in Cross Flow

Last Updated: 28 May 2011

People:  Dr. P. Rajesh Kanna

Flow structures and turbulence properties of the elevated jets in a crosswind arise in many situations for e.g., the stack flare, burner and plume dispersion etc. A higher order accurate solver is developed using finite difference method to simulate the problem. To enhance the computing efficiency parallel computing will be included in the solver. The convective term is discretized using third order accurate upwind scheme and the diffusive term is discretized using fourth order accurate central difference scheme. The Runge-Kutta fourth order accurate time step method is used for the time integration. To overcome pressure oscillation a staggered non-uniform mesh is used for the simulation. Pressure is solved by Solution Algorithm (SOLA). The pressure correction is carried out by local iterative method. Effects of jet to wind momentum flux ratio and nozzle height are the key parameters in the study.
